The most effective way to get a job is to identify what kind of work you want to do, and then build personal connections with targeted employers. This is especially true in difficult economic times.

This workshop is designed to get you started on the process by identifying the 8 steps you need to take now to prepare for your search, and offering a concrete, results-oriented plan to guide you through your 3L year.

Tuesday, October 25th
12-1pm, LC-203

Attending law school while working full-time and enjoying a personal life leaves little time for career development activities. Yet it is important to begin clarifying your goals and making connections in the legal community before you graduate.

At this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Explore different areas of the law and figure out what is right for you – even if you have no time to intern.
  • Create a professional network in the legal community.
  • Gain legal experience and build your resume.
  • Plan for life after graduation so that you find a rewarding job.

Wednesday, October 26th
5-6pm, LC-211

Understanding how the entry-level job market for attorneys operates, and how and when different types of employers hire, is critical to being able to use your time during law school wisely.

  • Get the facts on when different employers make their hiring decisions and who is hiring.
  • Learn the three ways law students get post-graduate jobs - and understand why applying to jobs on the internet is not one of them.
  • Discover the five ways to find an internship.
  • Learn the secret of effective networking.
  • Develop a strategy and an action plan for this year and beyond.

All interested students are welcome to attend.

Many law students are confused by the federal hiring process, and for a good reason, it is confusing.  This presentation is intended to provide a comprehensive overview on how federal agencies hire law students for both internships and entry-level attorney positions, as well as provide strategic advice that results in clear and actionable answers to students’ most common questions.  The federal competitive service will also be discussed as it offers a wide range of interesting and rewarding JD alternative careers.

Bring your own lunch, as well as all of your questions!
