Does your employment qualify?

The Department of Education has released an Employment Certification for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.   Borrowers will benefit greatly from this form -  it will notify them of how many payments still need to be made for the borrower to achieve forgiveness, and will provide some certainty regarding whether or not their employment qualifies for debt forgiveness.

The Legal Aid Bureau of Maryland (Legal Aid) has partnered with UB Law to provide employment opportunities and student loan forgiveness to students interested in public service though the UB Law Public Interest Fellowship Program (PIF).  The Public Interest Fellowship (PIF) provides second year day and third year evening law students a full-time, paid summer experience at Legal Aid designed to lead to an offer of post-graduate employment.

The program gives students a $4000 stipend to intern at either placement for the summer and a forgivable loan for their full third year tuition and fees. In exchange, the students commit to working for Legal Aid (or other 501(c)(3) organization) upon graduation for a minimum of three years.  Applications for PIF are due Tuesday, October 11th.
